Who am I?

I’m Emily Schmitz, a dedicated trail runner and coach. My journey began at 12 when I joined my middle school cross country team. I discovered trail running when living abroad in Colombia and have never looked back.

I split my time between the flat lands of Wisconsin and the French Alps. My professional background is varied – from over a decade in the human rights sector to my current roles as an athlete and coach. Running challenges me, fuels my sense of adventure, and keeps me grounded.

Coaching Philosophy

My coaching philosophy is rooted in open communication, trust, and meaningful connections. I aim to help athletes overcome fears and barriers while enjoying the journey. Every athlete is unique, so I customize training plans to fit individual needs, focusing on longevity and sustainability to keep the passion for running alive.

Certifications and Roles

I hold running certifications from USATF, RRCA, UESCA, and IEG in trail running. I served as the Elite Athlete representative for iTRA (2020-2022) and am currently part of the PTRA. I believe being an athlete means shaping the future of the sport for coming generations.

Racing Summary

Since 2016, I've run over 50 trail races ranging from just a few miles to 100 miles, including over 20 Ultras and several road races. I’ve represented the US at the World Champs (2019, 2022, 2023), set Colombia's first-ever recorded FKT on Alto de Letras, participated in the Golden Trail Series, and finished in the top 5 and first masters runner at UTMB Finals on multiple occasions. I am currently sponsored by HOKA.

Running is part of my daily life. It constantly challenges me and pushes me to grow. Follow me on Instagram @emilys.schmitz to keep up with my journey.
